I find Davis's reason for abandoning NetWare platform a lame excsue. It is well known by anyone who has implemented Notes on NetWare that the NLM's are poorly written and inefficient.

Also, IBM hasnt ever put much effort in selling Notes on the NetWare platform.

So the fact that "Lotus Customers are not investing in NetWare for e-mail and collaborative software" is a no-brainer. Anyone IT shops that are NetWare shops would be fools to consider any email / collaborative software other than GroupWise. So in one sense Davis is right - but only because Lotus has forced their customers into this situation.

This decision will hurt Lotus more than NOVL since it now gives NOVL's GroupWise a the only choice for NetWare IT shops while Lotus now is clearing battling it out with MSFT Exchange on a head-to-head flip-a-coin decision.

PS - NetWare file/print shops are still the largest %age of the market-share.

Summary - this is basically old news and not shocking.

Jim, a pretty negative article on Notes in the latest Forbes.

I don't know if it has anything to do with your Novell question though.

Is Exchange really doing an NT on Notes though?
