Andy Grove CC.
I caught just the Last half of this CC. You have to love Andy for his pragmatism.
I found his comments about the 2H performance, pricing and channel capacity most interesting.
This is what I believe I heard relative to those subjects.
When pressed by the Prudential moderator he seemed reluctant to forecast big things for the 2H, other than to say that historically second half seasonality usually results in a better half. He seemed to caution that some of the things a questioner had heard may be overstatements of what's coming. ("July alone does not a quarter make.")
He see's continuing over-capacity throughout the entire chain, and doesn't see it lessening soon. As for Intel, they will continue to increase yields, lower costs and increase performance even if it means over-capacity. That has always been and will continue to be Intel's goals. (When answering a question on the impact on capacity of going to 0.18 micron).
He see's the market as extremely competitive and doesn't see anyone backing off from trying to gain market share, (I think implying that AMD and NSM are going to keep reacting to Intel's price cut's).
Andy doesn't see any convergence of the PC and the TV. He see's them as two totally different markets. He thinks videophone/conferencing is a more likely market for TV and chips, as well as set-top boxes.
He discussed segmentation and other products. He see's a large market for customized appliance chips that work in conjunction with the PC.
Again, this is my impression of some of the things Andy said.
I'd be interested in inputs from anyone who caught the whole CC.

McMannis - "For a smart guy you seem to have selective memory..."

AU contraire, Jimbo.

Here's the post where you blamed me and Yousef for your buying Intel.

Yousef,
RE: "

Re: "Technically this is a good point to turn ..."

Jim, are your "tea leaves" signaling an upward move on AMD ??
... or... have you traded in your "tea leaves" for "chicken bones" ??"

Sorry I don't use tea leaves or chicken bones. My latest analysis is an increase in yields. I did listen to you and Paul Engel once and bought some Intel. Now I'm underwater 9 bucks a share. What is it Kurlak and the street knows that you don't? <G>

Jim
