Here is the press release from an outfit called Informed Investors who no doubt receives some kind of payment for their Infrastructure Report:

biz.yahoo.com

The semiconductor industry, like many others, has proven itself to be cyclical. I don't think making money off cyclical stocks should be frowned on because the industry might be "fickled".

How many stocks continue higher forever?

Truth is what we are all looking for is new ideas which will help us learn to invest correctly. Buying a stock with a reasonable valuation is one thing I hope to do. I like the valuations of lots of companies in the semiconductor industry. I am just waiting for the insider sentiment to tell me they are no where near fully valued.

Cyclical stocks run in groups just as many others. I would not buy into the internet craze today but I sure wish I had last year before these stocks reached unrealistic heights.

Regards, Jeff

I guess i should have tacked on 'IMO' to my fickle remark. I work with Mainframes and PC's for a living, and i have 2 nerds (FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM - PLEASE DON'T KILL ME PEOPLE) working for me, and every day , they argue about the (for example:) 'newest fastest video card that "just came out" - It is so much faster than the one xyz just came out with last month it isn't funny'. then this drops down to hard drives, motherboards, Iomega vs. Syquest, etc., and these guys talk it and argue it all day long, and i continue to plod along with my non-Y2K compliant 486-66 with win 3.11 at home, and i have a Pentium 400 with 128mb ram, 100 mb channeling, 20 inch moniter, some super-duper VooDoo video card, with a huge fast hard drive at work, and for what i do, i cannot tell much difference between the 2 (except the 486 is a HELLUVA lot more stable). But i don't game or number crunch much, so there you have it. i have what i have at work because that is what they gave me.
But you know what ?? to stay on top of the PC industry, the makers HAVE to buy the latest and greatest or they get passed by in lieu of some other PC maker that offers the complete latest and greatest package.
Like i said, i wouldn't know WHAT to play in this industry, but it is hard to bet against Intel, US Robotics, ATI and whoever makes VOODOO video cards. Then you get into LSI Logic, VSLI, AMD, and the whole schmoo of the semiconductor market, and i am clueless as to who to pick.
