1. Data networking 2. Voice networking 3. The voice business and technology is relatively mature. The information is well disseminated, the technology is (relatively) stable and the growth rate is limited. The data business is still immature, the technology lifetime is about 2 years and the growth rate is geometric. 4. I'm in the market, aren't I? ;-)

1. What is Cisco's core business? Hmm dinky little routers, "intelligent" switches, hubs very popular in the ENTERPRISE MARKET I understand accounting for 60-70% of their revenues. Oh and a smattering of atm/frame relay gear with no scalable QOS capability. 2. What is Lucent's core business? Oh jeez, this is a tough one, scalable, fault tolerant SDH, DWDM, ATM Voice and IP switching technology for Carriers? (Perhaps an unbeatable CARRIER CLASS portfolio if they ever buy ASND) 3. Why is it so much easier for Cisco to compete against Lucent's core business than for Lucent to compete against Cisco's core business? Brand awareness ? Bullshitting Capabilities perhaps? I dunno. But I hope they're not relying on 20+ years on dealing with the Carrier Culture. 4. Do I feel lucky? (Naah, you can forget this question.} Probably, but it seems you're only able to respond to my questions with questions rather than answers so how about you having another go at my previous post and put some credible meat on the bone to substantiate your misguided opinions.
