I think 128M should be adequate for your needs. Just make sure you leave yourslelf open dimm slots for more. A Fast I/O system is always advantageous for overall system performance. I think the money would be well spent on the HD.

I tend to agree with Sean: 7200 IDE HDD before >128 meg RAM for your applications. If you don't mind the extra $ or noise (which shouldn't be too bad), that's the next likely bottleneck.
