Oh, you can bet someone is going to pick up that football & run to the end-zone... Politicians always do, right?

Yep, I completely agree with your take on willie. He basically wakes up and decides which part of our constitution to dismantle each day.

Hitler *was* great at creating a cult of personality, and showing one side to the rest of the world... In the ways you described, he actually parallels Saddam a bit, no?

MeDroogies-

<<Slick Willy types who have no convictions>>

No, but after Monica sings, he just may get a conviction!

But what I really wanted to say is my impression is that Chamberlain was not the fool that the "Peace in our time" quote made him appear to be. Politicians must deal with reality. I think that by the Germans invaded Czechoslovakia- but I may have that confused with when they invaded Poland- the British were producing more fighter planes than were the Germans. Whichever it was, my impression is Chamberlain was preparing for war, but he knew he had no viable war option in 1938, so he capitulated and prepared his country as best he could to go to war with the Nazis.

I'm not saying that Chamberlain was one of the outstanding statesmen of the century- but he was very unlucky. Perhaps someone who is a better historian than I can set the record straight.

Regards,

Larry

P.S. Regarding presidential lowlifes, I don't believe we've had any president since Lyndon Johnson who was a thief (before Bill, that is). LBJ had Lady Bird buy television stations, Sleazebag Bill has The World's Smartest Bitch bring in the boola via phony futures trades. Even a looser like Jimmy Carter respected his marital vows (except in his heart!) and did not go whoring around with every promiscuous politician's groupie he could. In fact, Jimmy was a decent human being. And remember, nobody in the Nixon, Reagan or Bush administrations personally got rich out of their political connections. Clinton is in a class by himself.
