I first got exposed to all this telecomm stuff thru Forbes ASAP, which is a supplement of Forbes magazine that deals with high technology issues. Some time ago they start to publish George Gilder's articles. I have no idea who Mr. Gilder was before then, but what he wrote made sense. So I subscribed to his rather expensive newsletter for a year just to see what else he has to say. As part of the subscription, you get a copy of _Telecosm_, which is a compilation of his previous newsletter articles. In the book he gushed about spread sprectrum radio technology and the firm called Steinbrecher that specializes in such technology. Well, thinking I found something promising, I searched the WEB and tried to find if it is a publically traded company. To my initial disappointment, it was not. But several weeks later I was surfing the WEB looking for info on several other companies that Gilder mentioned, and I came across Tellab's WEB site. Searching thru their archived press release, what do you know, Steinbrecher was acquired by Tellabs! Now here is Peter-Lynch-like effort!... I congratulated myself on my "hard work" and promptly bought a couple shares in 1997. It was only later that I start to find out in detail what Tellabs does.

My point is that you probably need to do more thorough research than just plunging in the way I did.
