Carl,

Welcome back, be it temporary or permanent. The thread is much friendlier these days and less critical of anyone who dare to have an opinion.

On the subject of macroeconomics, we have spent quite a bit of time on the Asian issues here, as well as on the "semi eq - blood" thread. May be a little too much attention is paid on who the PM or MOF would be and their subsequent strategy. I think all we have to do is watch the yen. If the yen drops beyond a certain point, all hell will break lose.

In the case of semi eq and semis, a weak yen will just about shut the door for ordering any new and US$ denominated equipment while chip prices in theory would be even cheaper. Since 5 of the 6 largest semi producers are in Japan and Korea, where is AMAT etc going to get their orders from?

My guess if the yen broke down, anywhere 150 or lower (or is it higher?) will just about send Asia dn the tubes. Comments?

Hello to Ron.

Ramsey

Carl,

when do you think the rampup for copper chip equipment will begin? 2001 per INTC? and it seems the 300 mm transition is dead until 2003. It seems obviously that the front end guys like AMAT and NVLS would benefit immensely from the move to copper or 300 mm. But what about the back end companies? How would this benefit them?
