Cabletron SmartSwitch 9000's Deployed by Microsoft for Large-Scale Exchange Server Applications
July 29, 1998 08:12 AM

ROCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 1998--Cabletron Systems CS announced today that its SmartSwitch 9000's have successfully completed a six-month long test conducted by Microsoft Corp. for high-volume email applications. Microsoft subjected the Cabletron networking devices to the "worst-case" heavy demands found in large-scale Exchange Server applications. To make Microsoft's testing relevant, they duplicated an ISP's most challenging real-world work load -- 100 percent CPU usage for five straight days. Thirty-nine SMTP/POP3 servers delivered 13.5 million messages to 500,000 user inboxes. An additional 13.5 million messages were sent outbound for remote domain delivery. As the two Cabletron SmartSwitch 9000s delivered this volume of data, they also constantly performed transparent translation of FDDI, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet technology protocols. Throughout the demanding test regimen there were no network outages and not a single packet of data was dropped.

OK, ok ok! I was speeding on the highway, the only thing was that I was doing high triple digits. I guess what Paul thought was funny was that my mom was in the car, and she had just come from Greece to visit. It was not pretty when I NYPD got me, highway police are a**holes. But that's ok, they are still in their little scummy job which I am sure they hate when they see guys like me in high performance sports cars.

The only vindication is that ex F1 star Nigel Mansell (also, hint hint!) lost his license for doing 95mph on British throughway just about at the same time of my incident.

Anyway, the whole thing is behind me now - it was not funny at the time, although everybody at work (they found out via the radio!) thought it was hilarious: when I returned to work from Christmas vacation there was a huge sign on my desk that read: "WILD RIDE!?!!" with many smilies next to it. As soon as I saw it I thought a man can't even speed in private in this country!!! :-) :-) Little did I know I had made Paul's show.

And the funny thing is I told the story to a couple of my friends in Germany and they died laughing. Bastards!@#$% :-)
