Scott, You've done it to me again! You've got me hooked on a new batch of IETF drafts and very recent RFCs.

Thanks for putting me on to this material. I'll have to digest it when the alligators give me a chance. I am encouraged that ANSI is participating in lock step (kinda) with IETF on this one, and confirms once again that the two or three worlds out there may come to terms during convergence at some point.

I don't know whether to be amused or hopeful, however, on some of the initiatives, like force fitting SNMP onto SONET, in lieu of the ITU's and the Network Management Forum's favored CMIP/CMISE and TMN suites. For some of the things that go into the making of a carrier, some network management experts have suggested that SNMP may not be robust enough. But we'll see.
