Why would you want to download software on your friend's computer anyway? You wouldn't get to keep it when you left. I would think people would be happy being able to use it on their own computers and not worry about others. I guess if you wanted a movie or something over your buddies, then I could see the need. But why not let him download it on his account and then give him a few bucks? Also, check this out from wave's site:

wave.com

Under "Wave System":

"Conducts customer transactions off-line for maximum convenience and
cost-effectiveness" ... "Consumers who use WaveMeters do not need to establish network connections more than once a month to acquire content products continuously off-line."

This means that the meter keeps track of your account and then calls the info into the server. It knows the amount of cash in your account the last time it communicated to the server and it keeps track of how much you spend. If you try to go over your account available funds, it will require you to add more funds or it will bill you at the end of the month after it does send your purchase info to the server. This is my interpretation only. Obviously, you still need an internet connection to download the actual content wherever it is located, but you don't need to bo conducting the actual transaction with the server, ie. credit card #'s etc. This happens later and is the function of the meter.

Also:

Under "WAVENET"
"Transaction Processing

TXP acts as the principal interface with the WaveMeter and is responsible for accumulating data pertaining to the consumer's usage. TXP is the consumer's real-time connection to WaveNet services. The 800 service lines are managed by matrix-switched processes that provide load leveling and event logging. WaveNet's DBMS environment stores product information, sales tax, and purchase order authorization. For credit requests using standard credit card accounts, TXP interfaces directly with a credit/bankcard authorization network using the ISO 9660 standard. Multiple, redundant logs of all transaction events are kept within TXP by Wave's data server."

Read "Data Train" Section:

DATA TRAIN The Future of Electronic Commerce

"Wave is developing a data broadcast service, DataTrainSM, that will provide electronic information to consumers on demand. Because of its exceptional efficiency and unparalleled ability to deliver information directly to consumers, data broadcast is expected to become a dominant channel for the delivery of electronic content. In 1996, Wave developed CablePCSM to test the possibilities of data broadcast content distribution using existing broadcast technology, high speed two-way cable modems and other interactive technologies. Based on test results, CablePC has been modified to match the capabilities of developing technologies. DataTrain is an instantaneous electronic information delivery service that will expand and "productize" CablePC. A continuous feed of encrypted digital data will be supplied by DataTrain to established broadcast media, including satellite, datacast, intercast and cable. No longer will consumers have to wait-out phone line tie-ups, Internet traffic jams or for web site servers to clear. DataTrain will provide sports, e-mail, news, weather, and other electronic information to consumers on demand.

Like a railroad line, DataTrain is a high speed, uninterrupted data stream that broadcasts gigabytes of information to consumers' PCs every day. DataTrain software can automatically select broadcast content - via a cable channel, broadcast over the air on the television signal, or direct broadcast satellite - and store it on consumers' hard drives. Because DataTrain content appears as soon as it is broadcast, hours or more of tedious waiting for downloads are saved each day. Installed in consumers' PCs, WaveMeters will capture the data stream and decrypt information or data selected by consumers. They will also measure who received which files, and record file descriptions. Specific bits of information could also be selected from
larger bodies of information."

It is no wonder that the Wave meter is in the WinTV boards! It will have a cable connection and act like a high speed data modem! Just think about it, the speed of cable modems are FAR superior to a 56K modem and I think even faster than a T1 connection, although I'm not sure. The picture is getting even clearer to me every day! Anyone know if those Wave Enabled Win TV boards can act like a modem? I bet that they can!! Actually, I am betting that they can!

Well, "Chew on This"
It is a mouthful. I hope that this answers your question.
