Depends on your baud rate. If you're running at T1, graphics will load quicker, very simple.

It depends on a lot of variables:

Network capacity of your ISP;
Network capacity of Dell's gateway;
How many network hops between you and Dell's gateway;
The phone line you're using;
The modem you're using (guess what - you're not really running the speeds that are advertised!);
The machine you're using and the graphics capability of it;

Dell did make the rather blatantly stupid assumption that all of the above factors would be optimized for most people trying to get to their site, so they designed almost everything for eye-candy purposes. Sounds like it was designed and built (like so many sites) in-house on a locally connected network and it probably looked really quick to them in that environment.

A sad, but rather common situation.

Web Site Speed,

Very interesting. Using a PII 300 and a regular phone connection...

I tried connecting to ZDNET URL... 20 seconds
Went back and reconnected... 16 seconds

And then DELL URL... Don't know how long, because a telephone call interrupted.... (but less than 10 seconds)

Went away and came back.... 1 sec.

Regards, 3.
