InterDigital Submits B-CDMA(TM) Air Interface To U.S. Standards Group for Fixed Wireless Access
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- InterDigital Communications Corporation (Amex: IDC - news) announced today that it has submitted the first proposed air interface standard to the recently formed Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) working group for fixed wireless access. The proposed standard is based on InterDigital's Broadband Code Division Multiple Access(TM) (B-CDMA(TM)) technology. It contains technical specifications that permit high quality voice and high-speed data rate transmission in a fixed wireless access application, including all conventional data rates up to 384 KBps with growth to 2 MBps. This wide range of data rates complies with the International Telecommunications Union's (ITU) IMT-2000 requirements for third generation wireless products.

InterDigital's action follows the TIA's creation of a working group to explore fixed wireless access technologies. In a recent announcement about the new group, the TIA stated that, ''Standards for fixed wireless access and wireless local loop will be an essential element in achieving legitimate competition in the local loop.''

Brian Kiernan, Senior Vice President of InterDigital, said that, ''InterDigital is pleased that the TIA recognizes the growing importance of fixed wireless access in a global wireless market. We look forward to working within the TIA standards structure in pursuit of U.S. standardization of B-CDMA technology and hope that this will have an influence on international standards activities.''

InterDigital develops and markets wireless telecommunications systems using proprietary technologies for voice and data communications. InterDigital, in conjunction with its strategic partners, Siemens AG, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Alcatel Espana, is commercializing its new B-CDMA technology for use in wireless communication systems and products. InterDigital(R), B-CDMA(TM), TrueLink(TM) and UltraPhone(R) are among the trademarks of InterDigital Communications Corporation.
