You're fortunate! If you look at actual web site data traffic with a network analyzer, you'd find a lot of revealing stuff about web sites and what it takes to keep performance optimized. My experience has been that a lot of web performance issues are link traffic related, and the ease of site content production has created an enormous amount of junk that helps clog up the net. Dell just happens to have more image stuff on their site than most, and obviously, speed was not the primary criteria in the design.
