A poll done this spring (by Emnid for Spiegel) shows that only 7% of the European population see advantages of the implementation of the euro. Almost 40% believe that the euro will be negative. The opinions about the euro are quite different even among the politicians. Some would like a referendum while others believe that the euro will solve the internal problems. Four German professors have filed a lawsuit at the Verfassungsgericht(constitutional court) and recently more than a hundred economists have signed an open letter demanding the postponement of the implementation of the euro. Not everyone is convinced that EMU is the way to go.
