From yesterday's SJ Mercury:

<<Since Finnish researchers discovered the flaw last month, tests have established its presence in three programs widely used to read electronic mail: Microsoft Corp.'s Outlook Express and Outlook 98 and Netscape Communications Corp.'s current Web browser, Communicator. Researchers are still checking to see whether other e-mail programs, such as Eudora, also contain the flaw. >>

From today's Mercury:

<<Other e-mail readers may be affected, but most researchers now believe that another commonly used program, Qualcomm Corp.'s Eudora, is safe. >>

What a difference a day makes!!

PC World Online's "Today's PC news summary 7/29/98" (you need RealNetwork's RealPlayer to listen to this) does talk about the security problems with the Microsoft and Netscape products. They then went on to chide Microsoft, saying Microsoft knew about this problem for weeks and did not lead on getting the fix out. Also, Microsoft's currently available fix, while better than nothing, does not completely solve the problem. Microsoft is telling people it is OK to use the current fix but they should make certain to get the next fix available real soon now.

Finally, at the end of the piece, they mentioned that Qualcomm's Eudora is not susceptible to the security problem. Hurrah for this too brief mention.
