Hitachi to Reorganize Semiconductor Operations

Hitachi <TOKYO:6501> plans to restructure its semiconductor
division, which has suffered from the depressed market for DRAM.
Due to poor division results, the firm posted a consolidated loss
of over 70 billion yen for fiscal 1998. Hitachi plans to more
carefully identify profitable products and those that are not to
create a flexible system that is more responsive to market
changes. The firm will reorganize operations for each individual
product, including DRAM and system LSI chips.
