Retiredsoon -- Thanks for the thoughts. No, I'm not sure whether the famous Irish nationalist Michael Collins is an ancestor of mine. As far as I know, my family members are all English. In addition to my father's near 50 years in the Canadian media (including 16-odd years with the CBC, in his long-ago liberal days), my grandfather was an award-winning news agency photographer in London before WW II. So the Michael Collins connection seems a stretch. Anyway, I found another Stockwatch summary of an item from fellow Brit Roy Carson. ------------ Carson says Mael to win case, but not unanimously Crystallex International Corporation KRY Shares issued 34,000,000 1998-04-20 close $6.05 Monday Apr 20 1998 Roy Carson, writing in his Caracas-based Internet Mail Service, tells his e-mail subscribers that the Chief Justice of the Venezuelan Supreme Court, Cecilia Sosa Gomez, may not get all five justices to agree with her that Crystallex International should win the case it is appealing. Mr. Carson writes that Madam Gomez "had wanted 5/5 to release the ruling; now it appears that she may go with 3/5!" Mr. Carson, an international journalist with impressive but self-claimed contacts in the senior reaches of Venezuelan officialdom, says he is getting "strong signals that it is her intention to go with the latter." Part of the reason is one of the justices is ill, and that she wants to release the ruling quickly in light of the long delay. Mr. Carson adds that while he understands the ruling will favour KRY subsidiary Inversora Mael, which he believes holds title to the coveted Las Cristinas concessions, he confesses he does not know when the court will hand down its decision. Vancouver-based Placer Dome has been working at LC 4 & 6 since 1992, but in March 1997 Crystallex claimed title through its acquisition of Mael. (from Stockwatch) ---------- Patrick Souami and Frank Lostracco (definitely not Irish names!) have expressed concern about Vancouver securities entrepreneurs Peter Brown and Bruce McDonald. I've done some asking around and I have to say there's little doubt these guys are outstanding businessmen. In fact, Crystallex would do well to consider securing their services as board members. Mr McDonald especially has an excellent background in mining -- something lacking on the present KRY board. Peter Brown's Canaccord Capital has helped many companies get their start -- or refind their footing after setbacks -- through his financial services, and is often referred to as Vancouver's top broker. His experience and influence in the Vancouver market is legendary and his driving entrepreneurship an example for the entire industry. As for Mr McDonald, he has a string of companies to his credit that would impress anyone on the present KRY board.
