Market comments: 12:00 ET Dow +13, Nasdaq +3, S&P +4.11: Decent gains at mid-day mask a disappointing session...a strong bounce on the open after yesterday's weakness was aided by Merrill Lynch making IBM +2 1/4 its "Focus 1 Stock of the Week"...that seemed to be the vote of confidence the market needed, but it couldn't sustain the gains and an early 19 point jump in the Nasdaq and 50 points in the Dow disappeared...there was even broad market strength on the open, with advancers well ahead of decliners, but it has now settled back to level...the Russell 2000 small cap index also made a decent move, but is now just +1.01...there are few big sector moves or individual stock moves at this time, and although an up day is an up day, this is really a case of the dog that didn't bark...Internet stocks continue to be weak, suggesting that the speculative nature of the market has eased: Yahoo (YHOO) -2, Amazon.com (AMZN) -2...Dow Transports -9.
