All,
Becaue the word rapture does not appear in the bible some may be uncomfortable with it. Just as the label "christian" was coined to describe the followers of Jesus the word "rapture" has been coined to describe the catching up to meet the Lord. Christian was coined at a time when the word was recorded by the first christians but the word "rapture" only appeared in the 1800's I believe. It has been accepted as a useful word and in itself is unimportant. The idea that there is no catching up because the word rapture is not in the bible does not hold any water. It only describes the "catching up" that Paul wrote about and nothing more.

1 Thess. 4:15-17

15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, and remain until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord.

In Paul's letters he often made a distinction between what he was saying and what was directly from the Lord. He makes this distinction here when he writes in verse 15 "by the word of the Lord".

1 Cor. 15:51-52

51 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

><>...Good afternoon Donald...><>

The rapture theory as is taught by some in the church,(and thanks be to God it is not as popular as it once was) is what I am saying is not written in the word of God.

The timing is of utmost importance! And nothing, in any way shape or form,in the word of God teaches what the rapture theorists teach.

On the timing Donald: The rapture theory teaches that all Christians will be gone before the coming of anti christ. This in and of itself is a dangerous teaching, in that it does not prepare those rapture believing Christians for the antics and deceiving ways of satan disguised as Jesus, The anti-christ.! They will be taken by storm. They along with, the unbelievers, will be deceived into thinking that he is Jesus...come to rapture them away. And when our Lord truly does come, He will come as a thief in the night only to those who believe that He has already come.

Donald you wrote:
Do you believe that they will all have to die or will some be
caught up in the air as the Apostle Paul says?

All who are still here on earth at teh time of our Lord's return will be changed into a spirit. Our flesh bodies will be no more, and our spirit bodies will be revealed.

Donald, we who are still here at the coming of our Lord will be changed into a spirit body...all of us, not just Christians....1 Cor. 15:52...And there is a very good reason for that. Because flesh and blood cannot enter the Kingdom of God...v.50

At the 7th trump (the last) Christ returns, and the millennium begins...right here on eath...this earth will at that time become the kingdom of God and His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever. Rev.11:15... And it will happen at the 7th trump just as the Bible states. Not one minute before and certainly not at any moment.

Now Paul's 1st letter to the Thessalonians Ch.4 was very clear. He was reassuring those who were questioning what will happen to those who are already gone on to be with the Lord...Those dead in Christ. He didn't want them to remain ignorant,(Paul's words) as to how they would be a part of the gathering back to Christ.
1Thes 4:14
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Also note in v.15 that Paul is telling them that we which are alive and still here unto the coming of the Lord shall not precede them who are already with Him....How can we precede them, they are already with Jesus.? He was just trying to show them common sense.
And Paul ends the chapter by telling them ...not to worry about those who are already dead...

Donald did you not read my previous posts concerning this? In that post I showed the meaning of the word air as was used by Paul in v.17
