Paul,
How could Intel have manufacturing difficulties? Can you please look into this? Something isn't right.
Jim

ANSYS Certifies Dell's Precision WorkStation 610
Powered By Dual Intel Pentium II Xeon Processors

PR Newswire - July 23, 1998 14:05

SOUTHPOINTE, Pa., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- ANSYS, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANSS) today announced
the certification of the Dell Precision WorkStation 610 for running ANSYS/Multiphysics(TM), a
coupled-field, multidisciplinary finite element analysis program. Certification means that the
Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL) workstations and graphics cards meet or exceed
the technical requirements for ANSYS(R) software.

ANSYS previously certified Dell's Precision WorkStation 410 and 400 models. This
certification is part of the ISO 9001 documentation and quality assurance requirements on which
ANSYS relies to ensure its products meet users' expectations.

"The Dell Precision WorkStation 610, powered by dual Intel(R) Pentium(R) II Xeon(TM)
processors demonstrated unprecedented multi-processing and scaling performance for an
Intel-based system during our tests," reports Paul Bemis, Vice President of Marketing at
ANSYS. These capabilities ensure that even the most complex Multiphysics models will solve
efficiently on both single- and dual-CPU machines.

"The 610's graphics performance is nearly twice that of anything we have seen on any high-end
Intel-based workstation," Bemis adds. In plotting, for example, ANSYS tests show that the 610
can manipulate ANSYS models at a rate of over 740,000 polygons a second. "This latest
certification underscores our commitment to give customers the flexibility to run their ANSYS
software on the widest selection of hardware platforms in the CAE industry."

"The certification of the Precision WorkStation 610 for ANSYS/Multiphysics is a significant
endorsement of Dell's direct-to-the-customer business model and our resolve to address the
mission-critical requirements of manufacturing industry customers," said Jeff Clarke, Vice
President and General Manager, Dell Precision WorkStations.

"Less than a month after the announcement of our Pentium II Xeon processor, ANSYS has
already validated a big jump in performance of ANSYS/Multiphysics on Dell's dual processor
Precision WorkStation 610," said Anand Chandrasekher, General Manager, Workstation
Products Division, Intel Corp. "This is particularly exciting for CAE customers, and underscores
the tremendous momentum of Intel based solutions in the workstation market segment."

Available with single or dual Pentium II Xeon processors, the Dell 610 provides professional
users a powerful yet cost effective tool to run the most demanding applications available under
the Microsoft Corp.'s Windows NT(R) operating system. A high-end addition to Dell's
workstation line, the Precision WorkStation 610 is intended for customers who demand
maximum performance in computer-aided engineering and computer-aided design (CAE/CAD),
and unfettered access to their entire suite of office applications, all on a single platform.
