Don't forget the West coast temple fiasco and direct DNC solicitations from the White House that face Gore. He will be under scathing attack and if he survives, an immediate VP decision will be paramount -- that decision should define a running mate for his Y2K election campaign.

Impeachement seems increasingly probable but remains far from certain.

You mentioned Ford, albeit he was not a great visionary, he nevertheless possessed politically-valuable characteristics. Like Ike, no one seemed to disliked him passionately, plus he had an ability to orchestrate consensus. Gore is very polemic and his personality gray plastic.
