Rambus Rumbles Toward PC Market (Full Story)
TOKYO (Reuters) - NEC hopes its new Rambus chip will prove to be a digital Rambo. The Japanese firm announced today its Rambus subsidiary has developed a 72-megabit random access memory (RAM) semiconductor. It can move data at a transfer speed of 1.6 gigabytes per second. Compaq and Dell have already said this chip will be used in their future personal computers. It can also be used in workstations and servers. Mass production of the chips will start in December. Rambus Inc. is based in Mountain View, California.
