Using the rule of thumb that improvements in transfer rate (bandwidth) are more important than improvements in latency up to the point where the rate equals the speed of the microprocessor, this means that Rambus should be good for another couple of years past 2001. This is without any further improvements in speed or latency. Each year past 1999 should see a logarithmic increase in usage. Memory appears to be the choke point in faster computers so this is good news for INTC too.
