Eric,

re: Product Availability

A week or so ago I questioned the notion that there could be a G3 shortage in view of Apples decision to lower prices. Maybe I was wrong. Here are a couple of interesting links:
-http://ogrady.com/

The first article discusses the shortages in the desktop G3 line, citing several unnamed sources. One source, a retailer, said that he could have quadrupled his G3 desktop sales if he'd had some product to sell.

O'Grady has a bullet that notes a 7700 unit backorder for the high end Power Books with Apple only likely to deliver 2300 in all of August.

This is one of those good news/bad news situations IMHO. While fears that G3 sales may be tanking seem to be unfounded, Apples ability to meet demand, an old problem with the company, seems to still be with us to some degree. Let's just hope that iMac is available in sufficient numbers.
