IMO, I never have thought that whisper numbers come from credible sources, or reliable data. I think it's a number that someone pulls out of thin air, and is some multiple of the consensus estimates, say like 108% or so.

If they do come from insiders (in DELL's case), they come from people who aren't in-the-know.

Dell, as someone aready pointed out to me on this thread, is valuated for an obsolute perfect word. Analysts know that .46 will be eclipsed. In the old days, Dell might pick up double digits on an earnings report that beat the street by .05. Now after drubbing estimates time after time, analysts look for some chink in Dells armor. If whispers are EXCEEDED, then this stock will suffer mightily. Happened to me early '98. Beating the whisper significantly is required to continue the outrageous multiple on this stock. So far, Dell has rarely dissappointed.
My guess.... .53 blowout quarter and split is above $113.
