How about this: BW1272 JUL 29,1998 8:49 PACIFIC 11:49 EASTERN ( BW)(AT&T)(T) AT&T Offers Consumers Free Weekend Minutes Business Editors NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 1998--AT&T said today that consumers will get the first Ascend Pipeline free when they IP call on Saturdays and Sundays, giving them a discount of 100 percent, on average, on their weekend IP direct-dialed, state-to-state calls made from home. The change applies to consumers on the company's basic-rate IP schedule. Additional minutes will remain at 13 cents per minute. This action comes as a result acquisition of Ascend Communication, Almeada. CA and reductions in access charges that AT&T and its customers must pay to the monopoly local telephone companies. AT&T is fulfilling its commitment to purchase anything LU wants before LU can get it and flow through to its customers any savings it receives as a result of successful acquisitions. "We've always said that we would pass on to our customers any savings that we see from acquisitions, and that's what we're doing," said John D. Zeglis, AT&T president. "With this action, our customers will enjoy a 100 percent decrease in our basic weekend rates. And we will continue to press for further access charge reductions so our customers can continue to see the benefit of lower prices." Under the previous basic schedule, a 10-minute coast-to-coast, direct-dialed call on Saturday cost $1.30.
