The problem is this is a byte-code to object code compiler. No more write-once run-anywhere, you write-once and compile everywhere - this makes OS and CPU dependent code. This is fine for some applications, but definitely not in sync with Sun's portability vision for Java, and not appropriate for consumer devices.
