Red Alert

There is a nugget of reality in every paranoid. The problem is that Chechnia is again on the verge of a civil war. It is Wild West land, where Yeltsin's personal representative is a captive, being held for ransom.... and some folks would like to fix the pipeline that runs through there to pump more oil. An action against Chechnia, some fools believe, would discredit further the shoot-from-the-lip ("those nuclear tipped ICBMs are mine") General Lebed --- who astonished the world by telling the truth and getting the Russians out of the war (only to be outmanuevered by Kremlin supertactician Uncle Boris Yeltsin).

There is also a tendency to pick up Russian propensities for apocalyptic vision and to internalize them. So much is off the charts and off the books, we law-minded strangers cannot grasp the dynamics powering that strange land. The Wahabbi's sent fighters to Chechnia...the Chechens are said to be going with their brothers in arms to the Albanian side in the Kosovo war (the Russians back their brother slavs, the Serbs). Terrorists have declare this summer "be unkind to Dagestani seasaon")...

If you get enough monkeys typing away in a room one of them is going to come up with "August '91 Coup Revisited" ..... one may figure a way to bring Laika the space dog back to life, too.
