I've done analysis of many of the mania stocks of the last couple years, and they all share very common TA characteristics. The upward surges occur as "jumps" of a common magnitude, and volume holds the key to wether or not a "jump" will be completed. It's amazing, but all of the internet and biotech wonders I've studied behave this way. (Not surprising, I guess, since these momentum stocks become trading vehicles and the psychology and trading dynamics are pretty much the same) Anyway, the party is over and the final decline begins in earnest when (among other things) a declining tops pattern is formed. This is the sell-off by all the momo players (& institutions in this case). Usually this declining trend line is not broken and any rally attempts occur within its bounds. The KTEL and RMBS (from last year) charts show perfect examples . AMZN over the last 7 sessions is displaying just this pattern. I don't expect it to end for a while, unless there is a real (not bogus) positive news. The tremendous volume surge at the end of today was significant IMO. It was the "smart money" selling into the shorts covering as they wanted to avoid the expected last minute firming. (I know i was one of them :-{ .I'm sure Vinik is just about out now , in fact, I'd bet he has gobbled up shares to short and is cornering that market to take money from the longs this time. Datek is out of short shares & I am out of luck now. This same thing happened with Ktel - and that was the beginning of the decline then too. Sorry about the length.... Great work Rob, G. Funck, LP, Zax(a side splitter today ;-), et al To G Funck: Any recommendations on which are the best %return puts for OCT, considering the rapid premium decay. I'm thinking deep in the money puts to serve as proxy for the short share I can't get anymore?
