Jeff: Much obliged for the two articles and info on Comtex. The two articles you posted seems diametrically opposed to one another as one wants the Multinationals out of the country and the other wants Bill Gates et al to formulate their I.T policy, how ironic. I don't know much about this Rashtriya Jagran Manch sounds like an outfit from, what the press affectionately refers to as the cow belt, sort of like the bible belt in the U.S. I believe these type of organizations come about as a direct result of severe unemployment and poor living conditions as when people have nothing to do they get attracted to many radical and outlandish organizations and thoughts,in other words too much free time and no money mostly I say. As for Colgate and Pears etc I have no idea where these people have been but these products have been in India for over 50 years and these are not new products. As for other multinationals and their products I would think the villagers and the members of these organization are not the consumers of these items but the 'middle class' and they sure wouldn't allow them to leave, therefore wouldn't have any effect on these companies even if they call for a boycott of these products. All they could do is probably break some coke and pepsi bottles in places like Bihar,UP,Gujrat etc and won't have much effect on anything. As for that guy Jay Dubashi the so called economic advisor to the government, he sounds like someone who has no earthly idea as to the inner working of the global economy and I have read many of his articles/interviews on these subjects. If he is the primary economic advisor to the government all I can say is 'well good luck'. If one asks him where India is going to get the massive investments needed for infrastructure developments, and other such pursuits where enormous amount of capital and investments are needed he probably would say 'oh that we need foreign capital for that, but not coke and pepsi' and if you ask him 'what about India's 'products' being exported to other countries what if others take the same approach and put restrictions on Indian goods?',then I don't know what he would say probably something stupid I am sure.<gg> These people live in the past and thrive on ideas from a bygone era such as the one Ghandi promulgated-the Swadeshi or self reliance-what they don't realize is that, that was then and this is now, that was needed then and it is not needed now and not a viable concept. The choice before India is either close the doors and hide their head in the sand like Afganistan or old Burma or erstwhile Soviet Union and wallow in self-pity and swadeshi or embrace the concept of the global economy and the path of social and economic development.I hope as soon as they realize it is all about the future and not about the past hopefully things will begin to make sense,if for nothing else out of sheer necessity. And that is how I see it,could be wrong though.<g>
