I think everyone on this thread agrees with you about DSL. I was going to say it in my last comment but you beat me to the punch:

The strategy is , "well, if these fools want to run DSL, we'll support 'em". I guess I like the attitude. Don't fight them, get them and then switch them,..

That is exactly what the guy at ATHM was saying to me. Basically, you can not win the war by trying to fight against a zillion dollars worth of ads for DSL. You will just make big enemies and be known as the service that can't handle DSL. CPQ is even building DSL cards in the new machines and predicts millions of users by this time next year.

So the game plan is to welcome all "broadband" customers and then say "You are king. I will support anything you choose. But, as an impartial service wanting only to improve your product, look at this comparison of DSL vs cable and tell me what you think.".

The ATHM guy also ran down some statistics on all the places that simply can't get cable or won't be upgraded for years. It is better to get them now as customers and upgrade them later than simply not even try.

I agree with you about T. Somebody described the recent British "merger" as two giant elephants trying to mate. Slow moving enormous beasts banging into each other for years before some results occur.

In the worst case, T sits by while ATHM moves ahead on its own.

In the best case, T has lots of cash and decides to send some our way.
