The UAW sits at the short end ulitmately [sic], IMO.

Of course, you're correct in this. Long term, labor only wins where capital (represented by management) wins, and even then, only relatively so, as in the case of the most recent US expansion. The question is, how far away is "ultimately" and how much market share will GM have left at that point?

I just finished reading the Business Week article on the GM strike in their latest issue. (I'd post a link but it requires a subscription). They pretty much characterized the strike as a Pyrrhic draw, but with relatively more of the damage having gone to management, both for the short-term and at least a few years out.
