. . . At the last Senate/House hearing I attended, they stated that on
the Grid (And that is what I was addressing - not the smaller
switches in the local plant or in the local distribution system) the big
switches are NOT manually switched nor can they be manually
switched. One utility VP testified that they had 170,000 embedded
chips in their system. Our state PUC (Public Utilities Commission)
stated that it takes 2 hours per chip to test since the chip does not
have an IO port for testing. I don't know how you calculate but that
is 340,000 man hours to check our their system. That's 46,250 man
days OR around 174 man years.
