To the cable modem users out there: is it standard practice for the cable modems to also require a dedicated phone line for uploads? My cable company is now offering cable modems (advertising ~500kb/s downloads), but also requires the phone line, which I'm not too thrilled about.

BTW - Just heard that my cable company (Charter Communications) got bought up by Paul Allen. I bet MSNBC will be on the air very soon here.
