JPR, Chuzzlewit is just a pussycat. But pussycats are keen observers of the world. And this pussycat has noted the human proclivity for self delusion. It takes many forms. Faith healing, astrology, and T/A are but a very few manifestations of the same phenomenon. A straight line can be drawn through any two points. And a conclusion can be drawn from any single observation. But neither should have the force of proof behind them. The point behind the comment that I made earlier is that the market crashed in October 1997. The market also crashed in October of 1987. Two points.

When will the next crash occur? Okay, lets see how silly we can get with this game based on previous data. The previous market crash was in October 1929. So the second market crash occurred 58 years after the first, and the third occurred 10 years after the second. Why obviously the time span between crashes is getting shorter, and, OMIGOD!!! they occur at REGULAR INTERVALS!!! Look 17.24% of 58 years gives 10 years which is exactly when the third crash occurred! That means the next crash will occur twenty months after the last, or June 1999! Could Lucius Taurus be right? Do I need to buy a cemetery plot from Don Martini?

Now if you believe this kind of stuff maybe the cat should get into the business of establishing an Astrological stock hot line. Here's a hot tip: read Buton Malkiel's excellent book A Random Walk Down Wall Street.
