Addi, it has been my experience that MOST companies that announce
buy-backs DO NOT do it. Those that do, don't usually buy shares
up to the announced limit. On the other hand, with LSI's price
under what Corrigan bought his for, this time might be different.
It has been my experience that an official word on a buy-back
program only sees the light of day about 6 months or more after
the event.

Addi re Stock Buyback

From the annual report LSI bought back 2.4 million shares in the year ended 12/31/97. Paid a total of 60 million for it. Average price of 25.
The board of directors had authorized the repurchase of up to 5 million shares.

Unfortunately they issued 1.8 million of them right back out as stock options. And 11.7 million shares were issued in the conversion of some subordinated convertible notes.

So yes shares were bought back and a net of 11 million new were issued. Maybe they will vote to give us stockholders some of those nice options!

I have held LSI for about a year or so and seems as though there is strong support here in the 19/20 area. Should LSI break this level could get ugly for all longs. Seems as though the light at the end of the tunnel is ALWAYS a couple of quarters away....I dont think the street will give this company a higher multiple until they prove it with better earnings. Also unfortunately we will be moving into the tax selling season in Q4 which will add significant selling pressure to LSI. Appears as though very few if any are in the black at this point. Also I agree with an earlier post that Montgomery Securities analyst has been right on the mark with its outlook and currently they have LSI as a "Hold". I will continue to hold unless the 19 level is violated...

Good investing to all....

Im normally an optimist but this holding has certainly tested my patience... : )
