LOD, I think you've cogently stated the reasons why a company would be an acquirer of GTW -- it allows the acquirer to adopt the entire model without jeopardy to its existing channel sales.

My understanding is that the "Country Store"concept is simply a way for GTW to show its wares to consumers who are wary of the internet or who may be first time buyers of computers. The machines will still be BTO. I think this is a natural consequence of GTW's decision to target the consumer market rather than the commercial market. But I think costs may outweigh the benefits here. It seems to me that GTW is betting the farm on selling consumers direct. But I see problems here. The Your ware program seems to me to be a pretty expensive leasing program, and consumers savvy enough to understand the pace of technological change are also savvy enough to figure out that this isn't a good deal. So it looks like GTW hasn't really figured out whether it is targeting first-time buyers or more sophisticated home users. A bad strategy.

Disclosure. I am using a GTW 266 PII machine and I love it. I only wish I could have waited a few more months and bought a Dell for a lot less money! I was using one of those machines that Jim Patterson said was adequate for the job. Wrong!
