Re: SYMC and BEAS news was out yesterday (29th:9:00am) on CBSMarket Watch and the night before (28th) on BEA's web pages. For future reference, some news alert services are a day or even two old. This headline was reported at 9:00am yesterday by CBSMarketWatch at marketwatch.newsalert.com Also, I was surfing the BEA Systems web pages late at night on July 28th and found that BEA posted it long before the CBSMarketWatch's morning release! You might want to check out BEA System's web site at night to get a head start on others! beasys.com Since this news was out yesterday - it doesn't look like it had very much of an impact on stock price. Today's price rise is probably similar to the last few days price falls in so much that it seems to be coinciding with the NASDAQ trend. I suspect that if the NASDAQ continues an upward trend, we should begin to see some BEAS increases as we get closer to Aug 20th earnings release? Last quarter had this behavior anyway. Granted this deal is good news. I believe that SYMC's JAVA tools are the best! Their Visual Cafe is a screaming compiler, much faster/better than everyone else's compiler. Also, I did some of my own research recently and found that head hunters (recruiters) want people with SYMC's Visual Cafe more than other types that were specified - like Rational Rose, J Builder, Visual J++, etc.. I was surprised to find out that there was so many Java/WEB related positions available. It looks like a severe job shortage in that area! I think that BEAS is doing the right thing by hooking up with the best partners and offering expert consultant services for their products. FYI: Cadence Systems (CDN) has made BIG increases in their bottom line by offering consultant services - they call it Spectrum Services. Customers like to have training and expertise available. I think last years growth rate for Spectrum Services was about 75% whereas Cadence overall was about 30-35%. I think that the certification programs (Microsoft, Novel, etc), training, and contract services will continue to be hot items. Much of selling products today is selling speed (development, implementation, installation, and/or ease of use), reliability, and increasingly service (education, consultants - solution providers, and customer support)!
