briefing.scam rambles on... 14:31 ET Stratus Computer (SRA) 28 5/16 +1/2: --Update-- Takeover rumors propelled stock an additional 2 1/4 pts higher, but SRA shares have succumb to profit-taking. At this pt, no changes in speculation reported this morning that Ascend may be interested in pulling the trigger on an acquisition of the company. Volume 2.1 mln shares vs avg daily turnover of 0.24 mln.

I'm starting to wonder about the cumulative effect of the LU buyout rumors. On a psychological level, people might think they've heard the rumors for so long that it can't come true. Based on all of my reading, it seems to be a very good strategic and product fit. LU covets and needs ASND tech and worldwide customer base in the upcoming battle royale with CSCO, NT/BAY and European suppliers. But, can LU and its investment bankers bite the bullet and pay the required price come 10/1/98? It's fascinating to see such a long, public process.

I have to say from personal experience that ASND is doing very well. Several major service providers I have met with in the last month are in the midst of a CBX500/GX550 deployment. This is going to be the quarter that ASND will surprise on the upside. If you are reading this and are short, let me seriously give you this advice: IMO, I think this pullback may be your last chance to cover. Do it now! I work for a Fortune 50 company, and I regularly meet with the biggest telecom/service provider companies around, and do business with a few of them. All of them want our business.
