FWIW, I spent a fair amount of time with Alta Vista managers and developers this spring before the merger. They said that the site at that time was profitable as is. They were in a sort of limbo, DEC had originally intended to spin them off, CPQ had not made its plans known. They were publicly demoing their language translation service (I assume that all foreign language HS students do their homework on it by now.) And they were giving away their HD search engine disks. Nice that the asset will be developed. Mr. BS
