They're probably considering valuations... that's my guess. LU's PE is pretty high, you have to admit. As for "the acquistion" that's probably dialed in. If LU swallows someone big it'll take a quarter or two to digest...CSCO's valuations won't hurt until LU goes through that period and comes out the other side. In fact I suspect LU will see a bit of weakness come October. An uneducated guess. ;)

Large acquisitions are expensive, dilutive, and hard to digest. CISCO has a perfect track record of eating up small players with promising tech. They get entrepreneurial talent and little or no duplication. Maybe this is why they are favored by Fortune.

Check out some other companies stock prices that have made large acquisition's and look at the statistics behind these things. (Compaq, Nortel) Personally the more I hear about this large acquisition in the fall the more I'm inclined to sell and wait until the dust settles (later this summer that is). I held NT when they bought BAY and I didn't like that haircut at all.
