Credit card in hand, I tried to purchase Portico from every reseller that GMGCin listed in the Los Angeles area. Here is my account: MaxAir - Got passed around but the third guy I spoke to seemed to know a little about the service. Didn't know the pricing, didn't have a demo acct yet, said they would send info as soon as they got some from GMGC. Promised to call me as soon as he had a pricelist and the instructions on how to sign me up. Tarzana, CA, 91356 Phone: 818-758-8300 Everything Wireless - These folks at least had a professional receptionist who knew what to do when I asked for Portico. The problem is that only one chap in the office, Greg, knows anything about it. He wasn't in but I could leave a message. Los Angeles, CA, 90034 Phone: 800-794-5444 Manhattan Cellular - Answered by an answering machine that said 'Hi - this is Doug and I'm out of the office till August 5th' I could leave a message. Manhattan Beach, CA, 90266 Phone: 310-939-1220 GTA9, Inc - didn't know what I was asking for. Claimed to subcontract installing internet gear for GTA9 in San Francisco. Suggested I call them. Hawthorne, CA, 90250 Phone: 310-973-0201 Vycom - Same as the call to Maxair. Didn't know the pricing, didn't have a demo acct yet, said they would send info as soon as they got some from GMGC. Promised to call me as soon as he had a pricelist and the instructions on how to sign me up. Industry, CA, 91745 Phone: 626-723-0001 After speaking with these folks, it looks to me like: 1) None have the kits necessary to sign up users. 2) None are terribly well trained. 3) The ones I actually spoke to didn't have demo accounts or know pricing. I know it's early but I'm smelling a rat here. Where are the top drawer wireless resellers? Where are the name brand retailers? These are not the resellers I was hoping for.
