Procreant, I was going to respond to him myself, but you said it so well!!! Novell has no interest what so ever in competing on the desktop! Think about it - with what product would they do compete with? Novell is interested in being the LEADER in the Network Infrastructure business. This is an area that no one has yet taken any control on - including MSFT! Novell is the farthest ahead of anyone on taking ownership of this market. The key product and technology that Novell needs to command - and is currently the clear leader on - is Directory Services! With MSFT's delay of NT5 and its associated MAD, NOVL is further ensuring that NDS is the product of choice for enterprise level DS. NetWare 5 will be the next most important product in NOVL's arsonal. This clompletely open platfom will address the majority of the few remaining limitations that NetWare had (application platform development and non-native IP). Again, with NT5 being delay, NetWare 5 will be given the advantage of reclaiming its file/print dominance (and please dont say that file/print is not needed anymore - that would be the most stupid statement heard). Then, the other products like BorderManager for corps and ISPs, GroupWise for NDS integrated messaging and collaboration, and ZenWorks/ManageWise for NDS integrated management have are will kick into gear shortly. And all these tools will make the inferior MSFT software a better product - but guess what - you had to buy a ton of NOVL products to make it happen! REVENUE REVENUE REVENUE! NOVL is recovering! Make no mistake about it. Sit back and watch. Toy
