El,
Profit on low end PCs must be like profit in the grocery business. You make money on the rapid turn over of products in the self space. It's called a commodity business.

Computer e-tail site tracks sales gains

Online sales for computer products are soaring, according to new
data from Computer Shopper NetBuyer, a shopping site for computer
products on the Internet. A sales report for as many as 1090
vendors on the site operated by ZDNet said orders were up 351
percent in the second quarter of '98 over the same period last
year. Spending is up as well. The average order size on Computer
Shopper NetBuyer is over $500. Buyers are spending an average of
$1,515 on a desktop and $2,200 on a notebook. "This increase is a
clear indicator that consumer confidence in online purchasing is
showing very strong growth," said Al DiGuido, Computer Shopper
executive vice president.
