Greg, I lost video and had to replace the motherboard and video card, still under 3-year parts warranty. Still can't print, though....Luckily it happened right before the warranty ended!

p.s. I find it hard to believe that I could burn out a section of the motherboard, the printer and terminal port area. Has anyone else seen this happen??? Please help???

Yes, I can happen as a result of lightning or a power serge.

When you get your new machine get a UPS power supply. This will eliminate these problem. This may not be your problem but I have seen it quite often. I have read power surges are responsible for 40 % of hardware failures.

Goog luck with your Dell

Best wishes

I'm on vacation so, as usual, I am reworking and upgrading my relative's computers. One was burned out as you described. The cause was a lightning strike even though the computer was plugged into a store brand surge protector. Even components that we salvaged that appeared to work, such as diskette drives, had intermittent failures. I recommend total replacement.
