Anybody have one or two film critics they generally trust? I relied on Vincent Canby of the New York Times to steer me towards good movies for a long time, and always looked forward to his literate reviews, but alas, he retired a few years ago. I always enjoyed reading Pauline Kael in The New Yorker, though she was frustratingly hard to please, and often panned films I loved. Today, I have not found a reviewer who matches my tastes as well as Mr. Canby.

Thanks for the url, Myron; I will be using it frequently. That was an excellent review by Janet Maslin of "Saving Private Ryan". It is truly a great film, and I think the finest war movie I have ever seen. I like the genre, and this film transcends it.
