July 31, 1998 Network World : Intel Corp. has begun shipping the Express 8100 Router, which is capable of transmitting data at full T-1 or E-1 line speeds over a frame relay network. Intel has been shipping an ISDN version of the router since March. The new router can be configured remotely, and Intel offers optional encryption software for $199. The Express 8100 Router costs $699. Intel: (800) 538-3373 ADC Kentrox last week introduced a DSU/ CSU for monitoring frame relay networks running at up to T-3 speeds. The company already offers devices that can monitor 56K bit/sec, 64K bit/sec and T-1 networks. The new FrameVision device costs $14, 995 and will be available in the first quarter of 1999. An E-1 edition is available now and starts at $1,795. The company also announced software for its FrameVision products that generates reports on network performance. Kentrox's FrameVisio n Reporter is a Web-based tool that can be used to verify service-level agreements with carriers, pinpoint performance problems on W ANs or LANs, and figure out appropriate bandwidth needs for certain applications and users. The $995 FrameVision Reporter package is designed for small and mid-size companies. For larger companies, Kentrox has integrated its products with reporting tools from Concord Communications and DeskTalk Systems, Inc . Kentrox has also developed an application called the Enterprise Monitor Option that can track the "top talkers" on a corporate netwo rk.
