Chat Frank & Scott,

<The question that I'd like to ask is this: Has this distinction taken hold in the industry? Or are both forms (cell-switched- muxes and frame-contention- concentrators) considered to be DSLAMs at this point in time, without distinction?>

Frank, its been a real pleasure reading this & the VOIP threads. Im not qualified to answer such but sure hope someone steps up to the plate. That's one of the best questions Ive read here yet. Keep up the great work. In regards to Csco, Id say yes in that they have / are integrating their techs into the remote access line but would assume the best is yet to come as they develop & market this product line.

Scott, you got a good point there, considering all the PR Cisco released earlier this year. Guess they would be the leaders of real world installed DSLAMs. Or, @ least the ones that are revenue generating for telcos.

Back to lurking & thanks,

Dug

Hello Frank,

I haven't seen anything other than the fact that all of the "pure Cisco ISPs" can now purchase a complete network from Cisco. Before this purchase I had heard (and seen mention) that PairGain was being tested by U.S. West in their xDSL network. U.S. West is a very strong Cisco shop (as are a lot of people) and after the purchase I wasn't surprised to see U.S. West installing NetSpeed gear here in Salt Lake City.

I have seen a couple of reviews that don't give the equipment very high marks ... and from my experience here in SLC they don't work well in marginal copper plants.
