Frank,
You got the article I paraphrased (so to speak <G>). I couldn't find it on the net, so while retyping it, I thought I would put my $.02 in. Sure you can repost it.

Now along the lines of the same subject (infrastructure upgrades), it is totally beyond me why the FCC would allow some of the mergers going on in the industry. The Bell Atlantic - GTE takes the cake. When I listened to their press conference I was just taken aback how self-centered and egotistical they are. A lot of time was spent figuring out who was going to be "boss man." Who was going to be the CEO, CO-CEO, President, etc. It was pretty disgusting. As far as I see it, all the deal does is gives these two dinosaurs more time to milk the 100 year old twisted copper pair before being forced to upgrade. So the more the mergers of what can be considered regionals, the less infrastructure upgrades. This merger is "bad" for consumers and infrastructure investors.

Now the AT&T-BT telecom appears to be different. To me this one made sense. Those two knew it was going to take some big bucks to do the upgrades. So they said, "Let's share this burden and share the results. To make it even cleaner, let's create a third company to do this work." I see this deal as being "good" for the consumer.
All IMHO of course,
MikeM(From Florida)
